Set Learning Goals Instead of Resolutions

Just before Christmas, our friend Blake Palmer, a very attentive real estate
agent (www.blakepalmer.com) sent us his regular newsletter, which I always
find delightfully informative. I was especially impressed with an article
in his Christmas issue entitled "Set Learning Goals Instead of Resolutions".
How brilliant!
It made such sense to me and I got so excited about it, that I had to share
an excerpt of the article with you:
"A learning goal is simply a commitment to learn something rather than
achieve a specific milestone.
Say, for example, that your New Year's resolution is to get in better
physical shape. A traditional goal might be: "I'm going to work out at the
gym three days a week." A corresponding learning goal would be: "I'm going
to hire a fitness trainer to teach mean appropriate workout program."
Research, published in the Academy of Management and other journals, reveals
that people who set learning goals are much more likely to achieve them.
They also tend to stay motivated over a longer period of time and get better
results overall."
We want you to achieve your goals and get better results, so we're
encouraging you to ditch the new year's resolutions and set some learning
goals for yourself this year.
(And may we suggest that Power Hour Circles are the perfect way to meet
those learning goals!) |
